Was Noahs flood a Global or a Local flood?

Some believe that Noah's flood was simply a local flood and not a Global flood. What does the Bible say about the flood?

2 Peter 3:5-7 King James Version (KJV)

For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

Lets take a look at The Book of Genesis where many great details are found about the flood.
Genesis 6:17-18
King James Version (KJV)
17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.
This scripture makes it very clear that every living thing in the earth shall die. If it was simply a localized flood, not everything would die.

Genesis 7:4
King James Version (KJV)
For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.
Again this scripture uses the phrase "destroy every living substance from the face of the earth." Does not simply list a definite place such as Sodom or Jericho. God is very precise in his teachings. If he was referring to a specific location as he has in the past, he would have. It is very clear that it is a Global flood.

Genesis 7:17

King James Version (KJV)
17 And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth.
This scripture says "forty days upon the earth" not upon a certain place or continent.

Genesis 7:23

King James Version (KJV)
23 And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.
Pretty specific here and very clear when it says that "EVERY living substance was destroyed other than Noah and his family." It does not leave room for the belief of a small population experiencing a flood.

Genesis 8:9

King James Version (KJV)
But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.
When the dove was first released she came back as there was no where dry to land. The Bible again is very clear that the waters were on the face of the entire earth not a small portion of it.

Genesis 9:11 King James Version (KJV)

And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.

And

Genesis 9:15-16 King James Version (KJV)

And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

The last two scriptures state very clearly that it can in no way be a LOCAL flood. Gods promise uses the rainbow as the covenant that He would not flood the earth again. If this flood was localized, God would have lied numerous times already as floods happen all over the world today.

The next material was taken from "Noahs Flood covered the whole world" Answers in Genesis. Web21 Dec 2010. http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/cm/v21/n3/flood.

If the flood was local...Here's some interesting questions....
Why would an ark be needed in the first place?
Why would God send the animals to the ark so they would be spared rather than running to another location if localized?
Why was the ark so large if localized?
If flood was localized how could the waters rise to 22 ft above the mountains? Genesis 7:20 "Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered."  Water can not build up in one area over top of mountains without affecting the entire world.

What does Matthew 24:37-39 mean when he refers to judgement of ALL MEN in the days of Noah if only localized flooding occurring? "But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be."

Are you aware that there are trees, aquatic life, birds, and landlife along with Dinosaurs all found in the same layers of rock and same time period? They not only have proof that they were same time period but they have also found fossils, sea shells and whales at the tops of mountains.  The flood was approximately 5000 years ago and yet there has been very little erosion in the last 5000 years.
Edmund Hilary climbed Mt Everest in 1953, at the 26,000 foot level he found seashells. The Andes mountains revealed fossilized oysters at 13,000 feet. Clams have also been found. The funny thing with clams is when they die they relax their muscles and their shells open up. These clams were found with the shells closed as if death occurred rapidly. Animals have been found with food still in their mouths which also indicates rapid death. These things all indicate a GLOBAL FLOOD not a localized flood as some would have us believe.

How did the waters recede and where did it go?  Psalms 104:6-9 has the answer Psalms 104:6-9 Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.
At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.
They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them.
Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth

Where did all the water come from since skeptics claim not enough in oceans rocks etc. The Bible says it rained for 40 days and 40 nights. It also talks about deep springs "all the springs of the deep gushed through"

 Now what do you think?
