The Book of JASHER is mentioned in our Bible by name....does it have credibility?
In the past I wrote a blog on the Book of Enoch and how it was originally included in the biblical text but was later removed as it fell out of favour with the churches. After some research it became clear that its text compliments the bible rather than contradict as some claim. Today we will take a look at another book mentioned in our Bible that is no longer included. The book is called the Book of Jasher and is mentioned in two very distinct places in the gospels. It is first mentioned in Joshua 10:13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. and then again it is made mention of in 2Samuel 1:18.(Also he bade them teach the children of Judah the use of the bow: behold, it is written in the book of Jasher.) Why would God make sure it was in the Bible twice if he didn't want us to question? I know there are many who warn others to stay away from these books but if you don't research and follow the breadcrumbs left for us, how will you ever know the truth? There is absolutely no harm in researching to find the truth. If something does refute the bible;knowing the bible has no errors, we would then have to throw it out. These books do not contradict the Bible that I have found, they simply give a little more detail in certain areas that seem to be missing. My belief is that He wants us to read these books if they are specifically mentioned and wants to make sure that they are not overlooked.
Lets take a look at what is in the Book of Jasher. Its title means The Book of the Righteous and it accounts for the lives of Enoch, Noah and Abraham. These are some pretty important figures in the Holy Bible and yet this book and its teachings were removed from the original copies?
The Book of Jasher actually answers a lot of questions unanswered in Genesis. I am only going to go through the first 5 chapters as a sample. Please feel free to research further on your own :)
It starts out with the creation story and Adam and Eve, it includes the Fall, the birth of Cain and Abel including the quarrel between the two brothers even leading to the first murder mentioned in the Bible. Chapter 2 Seth is born, people are multiplying and becoming idolators, the world becomes corrupt, Enoch is born, 1/3 of the world destroyed. Chapter 3 speaks of Enoch reigning upon the earth for 240 years. He worked for and against the Watchers in a mediator attorney type role. The very information included about Enoch brings us again back to the legitimacy of the Book of Enoch further increasing its credibility as well. After the birth of Jared, it describes certain activities of Enoch including descriptions of the trips back and forth from the heavens and the inside depths of the earth. This is not mentioned in the bible but doesn't refute.
In Genesis 5,6 and 7, 1Enoch 6,7,12 and Jubilees 5 and 7. They all discuss the accounts of the Fallen angels known as the Watchers coming down 'in the days of Jared' and after landing on Mt Hermon they took and mated with the daughters of men. Genesis doesn't state a number but Enoch states 200 Fallen angels. It shares that some of these giants were 450 ft. God judged the children of the Watchers called the 1st generation Nephelim by making them kill each other and making their parents watch them die. God then judged the Watchers and bound them in Tartarus and under the sands of the earth in the chains of darkness where they remain for 70 generations.
Chapter 4 talks about Noah being born. There was a time of peace when Noah was born and then another wave of evil took place as a result of the mixed species that began in later days of Methuselah that again resulted in flesh being corrupted.Chapter 5 Noah goes through 120 years of repentance and preaching to others about following God. The corruption is mentioned in Genesis 6:3-4 and 2Peter 2:4,5. On Gods instruction Noah builds the ark as mentioned in The Bible. In the Book of Jasher it gives more detail on the instructions of the ark. Jasher 5:34 summed up says that Noah commenced to make the ark 5 years before the flood and it took him that long to build. This doesn't refute the gospels at all.
Jasher goes into detail about Noah picking his sons wives even though the world was corrupted in those days. It explains how the sons were busy helping Noah build the ark that they had no time to look for wives. Noah would have had to choose wives from what was available Genesis 6:12, Jasher 4:18 and Jubilees 7:24 He chose the wives literally 7 days before Methusaleh died which was also by no coincidence 7 days before the flood. Noah lived 600 years before the flood waters came and in that time a new breed of evil has emerged and grew to corrupt the entire planet. Where did they come from?
Regarding the event of human mating with the angels that book is silent but The Book of Jasher contains an account instead of how "they mingled the seed with the seed of animals" It says that judges and rulers of the people forcefully took women from their fathers and husbands. It does not refer to sex with the angels rather describes scientific experiments with animals creating trans genetic species. The Book of Jasher however is not the only book that talks of this. The book of Jubilees which is another controversial book also mentions mixing human seed with animals Jubilees 7:24,25 "And after they sinned against the beasts and the birds that moveth and walketh on the earth; and much blood was shed on the earth and every imagination and desire of men imagined vanity and evil continually"
What are scientists doing today?? Does mixing human seed and animal seed open windows we aren't supposed to be opening?
Enoch summarizes the first 11 chapters of Genesis while Jasher summarizes the remaining chapters? With the combination of Genesis, Enoch and Jasher they definitely fill in some of the blanks.
Genesis gives us the basics of what we need to know, Enoch focuses on a specific event recorded in Genesis 6 in a very few verses and resulting consequences and Jasher gives us more detail on the mixing of the bloodline as well as confirming the same accounts in the Bible concerning Gods chosen people.
No book should ever take the place of the Bible but since it is listed in our Bible by name and the fact that it was in the original text, it is worth a look. I have found it compliments scripture as mentioned in todays cannon and should be included to know the truth. xoxo

a sad seeming contradiction i found is that it says Enoch, son of Seth died at 905 years old... after all the ascension into heaven, it suddenly decides to mention that he died (We also know that Cain had a son named Enoch as well, and named the place after his son Enoch, as also mentioned in the books of Adam and Eve).... Hebrews says that God took him, that he would not see death. either there is a mistranslation in the Bible or, the Book of Jasher that we know is not the original.. now, im not saying this as an argument to try and school anyone, but, sort of in disappointment after being excited about the book of Jasher.
ReplyDeleteI think you may have mistaken Enos dying for Enoch. It says that Enos died at 905 years old.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteNo mistake. I came across that discrepancy. It sys he died. at 905 years old. And it says he would not see death? Very confusing. It hurts to see these types of contradictions when we are so eagerly seeking the truth, and God according to the bible. And most "apocryphal" missing books of the bible are blatantly documented in the Traditional 66 KJV Bible. (Sadly, I highlight contradictions in this compilation alone and as well). We deserve the truth.
Delete(I believe in a geocentric earth, that is biblically confirmed, and is becoming a rampantly common agreement amongst Christians, atheist and science worshipers)... Take your time and patience and check it out! It will blow your mind like Tesla does!
Yes the book of Jasher has a few errors, but the Masoretic text the translation of the kjv's old testament disagrees with the Septuagint concerning the ages of the patriarchs as well.
DeleteThe Septuagint is translated from older more accurate Hebrew texts than the Masoretic, which is generally agreed to be highly corrupted by Jewish Scribes to undermine Jesus as the Messiah.
To see what I mean you should do a comparative study on the Septuagint and Masoretic text.
However, even the Septuagint we have today isn't completely pure as it as Justin Martyr is cited, in his dialogue with Trypho, accusing the Jews of erasing part of Psalm 95 (96) verse 10 which reads in both the Septuagint and Masoretic text saying:
Declare to the nations that Yahweh reigns
But according to Justin Martyr it should end, "From the wood," referencing the cross.
This ending can be found in today's Coptic Bibles.
My point in all of this is to show that people who pick at the text of Apocrypha while being ignorant of the deeper scholastic issues in today's translations of the Bible are holding a massive double standard.
It has been written that the Word of the Lord is permanently established in Heaven, that Christ is the Word and that the letter kills but the spirit is life.
I'm not discrediting anyones faith, I'm a born again Christian, I believe in the Trinity, I believe in the resurrection, Jesus is indeed the Lord and He is returning soon.
The book of Jasher seems to be in good agreement with Jubilees and 1Enoch and 1Enochs eschatology lines up a lot with Revelations and the book was quoted by Jude and loosely quoted and referenced by Jesus.
No doubt there are interpolations in the text just as there are interpolations in the KJV and omissions in the NIV.
Remember it was also written that God would destroy the wise man's wisdom and set aside the understanding of the Scholar.
And if you still want to hold on to any silly notion that holy Scriptures can't be corrupted just read Jeremiah 8:8 and put that into context with how the Jews switched over from the Solar calendar to the Lunar calendar. (Referencing Jubilees)
No mistake. In the bible it says Enoch the son of Jared did not die.
DeleteIn Jasher, it says Enoch son of Seth lived 905 years and died. So no contradiction.
There are a few enochs mentioned in the bible. it's not uncommon to have the same name as your great greatgreatgrandfather.
Caleb Ashton, Brian Robinson is correct when he says you confused Enos (or Enosh) with Enoch. Enoch was born 4 generations after Enos. The Enos you say lived to be 905 years old is the son of Seth, who is Adam's son. The Enoch who didn't die is the son of Jared, and he was born 4 generations after Enos. See Genesis 5:8-11 and Genesis 5:18-24.
DeleteWhen I read the book of Jasper it mentioned that God took Enoch
DeleteI read the book too, there was only a typo error in the names. Let me correct it here: Adam beget Set, Seth beget 'ENOSH', Enosh beget Cainan, Cainan beget Mahlallel, Mahlallel beget Jared, Jared beget 'ENOCH', Enoch beget Methuselah, Methuselah beget Lamech, and Lamech beget NOAH. Therefore we have ENOSH the son of Seth, and ENOCH the son of Jared. It was ENOCH that ascended into heaven, and ENOSH was the one that died. So the typo was just in the names. We should read all the hidden books because there are quite a lot of useful details in them.
DeleteYes You are correct.
DeleteVERY GOOD BOOK. I FOUND NO CONTRADICTIONS TO THE 66BOOKS OF THE BIBLE... ONLY GAPS FILLED IN...SIMILAR HOW KINGS PARALLELS WITH CHRONICLES. JASHER PARALLELS WITH GENESIS AND EVENTS MENTIONED IN THE BOOK OF EXODUS
DeleteOk, I don't know how to explain what I'm about to say but I will give it a try, I'm assuming that The Book Of Jasher is a more detailed version of some of the Books in the bible. Then again The Book Of Enoch Is More Of a False book that Satan wants us to indulge in to proclaim that the Holy Bible is false. What Im saying is that I don't believe in the Book Of Enoch because its speaks False on numerous of things.
ReplyDeleteMy Opinion tho...
Shanice, if what you are saying is true, then why would the Book of Jude in the Bible quote from the Book of Enoch (See Jude 1:14-15; Enoch 1:9)? If I wanted to, I could give more passages from the Book of Enoch that agrees with the Scriptures. Now having said that, I am aware the Book of Enoch is not divinely inspired like the Bible is, nor would I say the book belongs in the Bible. The fact the Bible quotes from it would suggest it is a book well worth our attention. The Book of Enoch may not be Scripture, but it is a historical text worth studying. The Book of Jasher and Jubilees is worth looking at as well.
ReplyDeleteHello Jerry,I agree with your statement of The Book of Enoch agreeing with scripture however, you mentioned that The Book Of Enoch was not divinely inspired. If it wasn't then why would the apostles of old read it? Also, we must look at the bible for what it is. It is basically a collection of letters and memoirs. God, moving on a particular person's heart to record their experiences or like most of the new testament, letters that were written to others. Later the Catholic Church decided what books they wanted to put together. Before that there was no bible. Only a collection of separate books with the exception of the Torah of course. My point is as time progressed these separate books started showing up with greater frequency and one day someone decided to put them together. The Book of Enoch may have been deemed too controversial by the early Catholic church but it certainly was not deemed so by the apostles. Even the book of Enoch mentioned that saints in the last days (though I don't think he used that phrase last days, but just for my own clarification) will be given books that would encourage them. I would say he was prophesying about the bible. So I would say yes, based on its reference by Jude and I dare say Paul ( when he mentioned the third heavens, seeing how Enoch gave details about each "level" of heaven) I would surmise that it is divinely I inspired.
ReplyDeleteThe book of jubilies claimed Jacob killed Esau with an arrow after Isaac died. The book of jasher says a son of Dan killed Esau and then decipatated him. Which is true which is not?
ReplyDeleteFrom my own studies, I believe the Book of Enoch is legit. I have read it and did not find any contradictions or theological issues. Plus, the writer of Enoch knew things that only God could have known/revealed as it was written before the NT period and speaks much of NT doctrine (pre-Messiah).
DeleteI whole-heartedly DO NOT accept the book of Jubilees. It was written by Pharisees between 135-105 BC (after the close of the OT) and is a bunch of nonsense. If contradicts and changes so many OT stories; I do not agree with the 49-year Jubilee count either. The Jubilee is every 50 years, period. 120 x 50 = 6000 years. 120 x 49 is not. This book is Satan's attempt to change God's time, seasons, and methods of reckoning the to create confusion. Do not waste your time with Jubilees.
I have not read Jasher, but found this site as I am about to get into it. And yes, Jude quoted from Enoch and Jasher is mentioned in OT as well.
Stay away from Jubilees. Be warned.

DeleteU also have to realize it depends on which Christian group you are in. Different christian group have different books in their bible. I think it's meant to be that way. They also believe different things, but there is a line which the Lord knows. For example is the Sabbath. Some Christian believe if you worship on the Sabbath it is legalism, but wouldn't it be lying when you are saying another day is the Sabbath when it isn't. Besides anything can be legalism if you do it for that reason. Many of the Christian groups have of things like this, I think it is meant to be that way for awhile. Each group will point out the other for things like these. However the Lord knows his plan for each group. There is a line though, which the Lord would say is passing, and Lord cannot be part of. The obvious is the groups that proclaim someone else is the Christ, that would be obvious. While other things can be given leeway, I suppose. I think it is like this for history to play out a certain way. When the Lord comes it be different as the danger of Satan will be vanished for a while.
ReplyDeleteI'm not talking about just anything can be given leeway. Given today's Christianity so mixed up in the world, I wonder how much of Christ's character is in some places and how much of it is by name only. However, the Lord does not lose, those that are his. So he knows how bring back the sheep that may run awry.
DeleteThe Lord controls history. He is not a fool. U don't tell your opponent what is exactly happening or fight a war telling you enemy what your doing exactly. Satan n his demons are out in the world. Somethings are also hidden to the world, but I do believe it opens up more as we are close to end of this age. This probably because history had to follow a certain way, before more can be revealed. It is not a coincidence that these other books are being read at these times. We may need to know more of the end times or the past as Jesus says it will be like the days of Noah when this age ends.
ReplyDeletePlus I find u have to be aware of what Christian section u are. There is a reason why the Lord has not made just one Christian groups. I believe he purposely have different Christian groups like different parts of the body with Christ the head. It is meant for there to be Catholics, Protestants, and other Christian groups. Also meant they would not work together but within their group. Just like in the body you have feet and hands that does things differently but is controlled by the head. Near the end times it may be different.
I have been searching for the answer to a question posted above. My Google search brought me here but I still do not have an answer.

"The book of jubilies claimed Jacob killed Esau with an arrow after Isaac died. The book of jasher says a son of Dan killed Esau and then decipatated him. Which is true which is not?"
Has anyone attempted to answer this?
I believe Jubilees (non phariseeic) to be the true one. My reason is that the two Jashers we have now is either a 19th century forgery or a pharisee's version. I do not hold the pharisee's writings as authoritative, due to the failure of pharisee beliefs to accurately follow those in either the OT or the NT. Additionally, Jasher seems to just be a historical document used to support the authenticity of the biblical events. TL:DR Jubilees is true, Jashers is not.
DeleteI think the best possible answer to this question is to consider that Dan is Jacob genetically. Esau's death was recorded at a battle at Mt Hebron when they went to bury Jacob so he couldn't have killed him there. The burial placed was purchased there by Jacob from Esau and Esau refused to honor it so a battle ensued. The details are recorded in Jasher 60 if one accepts it as truth.
DeleteJubilees 12:14 claims Haran, brother of Abram, dies attempting to save idols from a fire that was set by Abram.
ReplyDeleteJasher 12:26 claims Haran was thrown into a furnace by Nimrod after Terah, his father, blamed Haran for disobeying Nimord by not delivering baby Abram to be murdered.
Both claim Haran dies by fire, with significant difference to the cause of said fire.
I had questions about this too
DeleteOne thing is clear that we should accept the Bible as is until the Lord clears this up . However I think all Christians should read all these texts prayerfully with a discerning spirit. OK someone may get the age of a patriarch wrong but what proves to us that this error is the litmus test. My biggest issue is if one denies Jesus
ReplyDeleteChrist his deity and says anything that justifies evil.I have looked into Enoch and really found it to put the fear of God in me and cause me to pray more. If it's fiction well at least helped me a bit. The Bible did not fall from heaven with 66 books. We trust that the septuagint really gave us the true and complete word of God.
You are very correct about the Bible didn't fall from heaven. I believe all the books are inspired. For the fact that the AntiChrist (Roman Catholic Church) decided to hide some for reasons best known to them , does not make those invalid. The same people that released the Bible are the same ones that are now releasing the hidden books. Why? I believe the Bible has been tampered with because there are some things in there that do not tally with the rest of God's words. For example the bit where Jesus said 'I have not come to make peace but to cause trouble....' I just believe that statement does not go with Jesus' mission on earth. He came to encourage us to love God and love each other, also instructed that the gospel is spread across the world so that we don't miss heaven. He asked us to care for the poor and show them love. So why again would he say he came to cause trouble amongst family? I believe that was the Roman Catholic Church's insertion delivering Satan's mission. I have learnt a lot from the book of Enoch too and it makes me closer to God. Unfortunately all those books are within the domain of AntiCHRIST so that sucks.
DeleteI read someone mentioned : OT and NT", its called the scriptures and the Gospel. (And they sticked in 1 LAW)
